Competitive Audit

After reviewing the competitive audit of other plant identifier applications, I have come up with a list of features that I think will benefit the user when using Plant Doc+.

First two features that are key in an app of this kind; camera enabled plant identifier, and watering reminders. These two basic functions are a necessity when identifying/caring for plants. Identifying the plant is the most important feature so we can move forward with treatment.

With Plant Doc+, I think keeping it a free service with above average special features will make us standout to other competitors. Features like, light meter, plant care tips, detailed plant guides, and customized advice. We also believe in a community forum for active users.

The user-friendly and personalized design allows users to easily identify different types of plants using their smartphone camera. The technology analyzes photos of plants and provides information about the plant species, care instructions, and potential issues that may be affecting the plant’s health.

The lo-fi prototype is designed with a clean and intuitive interface, making it easy for users to navigate and access the information they need.

Reflections

During the usability study for Plant Doc, we learned valuable lessons about the importance of fixing user pain points and ensuring design accessibility.

One major pain point identified was the difficulty of keeping houseplants alive, which led to houseplants dying and having to purchase more. To address this issue, we connected professionals or “Plant Docs” to assist with the care and treatment of sick or dying houseplants.

Additionally, we found that users needed an application that they could upload, pick their professional (Plant Doc), gather treatment plans from their respective docs, and then adapt those plans to their houseplants.

Moving forward, we will continue to prioritize user feedback and accessibility to create a better product for our customers.
